About శుక్ల సప్తమి
The seventh tithi is the Sun's, and it carries his qualities: vitality, clarity, authority and health. Ratha Saptami, in shukla paksha of Magha, marks the sun's chariot turning north and is observed as his birthday. The tithi has a long association with healing, particularly of the eyes and of the skin.
The paksha
In shukla paksha the moon is waxing, gaining light each night. The tradition treats the waxing half as favourable to growth, expansion and outward undertakings, and most auspicious ceremonies are placed in it.
Bhadra — auspicious
Bhadra means 'good' or 'fortunate'. These are the workmanlike tithis: good for building, for trade, for study and for the ordinary business of a household. Their weekday is Wednesday.
What it traditionally favours
Sun worship, matters of health and vitality, travel, dealings with authority, and beginning a course of treatment.
How this tithi is reckoned
Published panchangams name a day for the tithi running at sunrise. The date pages on this site currently read it at 06:00 local time in the city you have selected, which usually gives the same answer; the methodology page explains when it does not. Because a tithi can begin or end at any hour, the same calendar date can carry a different tithi in two cities several time zones apart — this is a real difference, not an error, and it is why every timing on this site is computed for a specific place rather than for a country.
