About శుక్ల తదియ
The third tithi is Gauri's, and it carries her qualities: beauty, devotion, and a resolve that outlasts opposition. Akshaya Tritiya — the tritiya of shukla paksha in Vaishakha — is among the most auspicious days of the year, held to be one on which anything begun does not diminish.
The paksha
In shukla paksha the moon is waxing, gaining light each night. The tradition treats the waxing half as favourable to growth, expansion and outward undertakings, and most auspicious ceremonies are placed in it.
Jaya — victorious
Jaya means 'victory'. These tithis favour anything competitive or confrontational — litigation, examinations, negotiations, and acts requiring nerve. Their weekday is Tuesday.
What it traditionally favours
Marriage, ornament and jewellery, artistic work, devotion to the Devi, and undertakings meant to grow.
How this tithi is reckoned
Published panchangams name a day for the tithi running at sunrise. The date pages on this site currently read it at 06:00 local time in the city you have selected, which usually gives the same answer; the methodology page explains when it does not. Because a tithi can begin or end at any hour, the same calendar date can carry a different tithi in two cities several time zones apart — this is a real difference, not an error, and it is why every timing on this site is computed for a specific place rather than for a country.
