Significance
Brahmacharini is Parvati performing tapas to win Shiva — barefoot, unadorned, eating first only leaves and then nothing at all, for years. The name is brahma-charini, one who moves in the sacred, and it is the only Navadurga form with no mount and no weapon.
The second night is about what the first night's ground is for. She carries a rosary and a water pot and nothing else, and the classical descriptions dwell on her stillness. Where Shailaputri is the decision, Brahmacharini is the long interval afterwards in which nothing appears to be happening — which is the part most practices actually fail at.

What is done on this day
Offer sugar and white foods, and ask for endurance rather than for outcomes. Many keep the strictest fast of the nine on this day, and japa is preferred to elaborate ritual.
The nine colours are widely published as if fixed, but they are not — the sequence is assigned from the weekday Navratri begins on, so it shifts every year. The colour shown here is the one most commonly associated with this form; follow your own community's list where it differs.
