About Shukla Dasami
The tenth tithi belongs to Yama in his aspect as Dharma — right order, obligation, the law that holds. It is a benefic, stabilising tithi, associated with duty performed rather than desire indulged. Vijaya Dashami, the culmination of Navratri, falls on the shukla dashami of Ashwina.
The paksha
In shukla paksha the moon is waxing, gaining light each night. The tradition treats the waxing half as favourable to growth, expansion and outward undertakings, and most auspicious ceremonies are placed in it.
Purna — full
Purna means 'full' or 'complete'. These tithis favour the conclusion of things, ceremonies, journeys, and acts of charity and devotion. Their weekday is Thursday.
