About Shukla Panchami
The fifth tithi is given to the Nagas, and it carries their association with hidden knowledge, with fertility and with the earth. Naga Panchami and Vasant Panchami — the latter sacred to Saraswati — are both observed on this tithi, and it is broadly considered one of the most benefic in the month.
The paksha
In shukla paksha the moon is waxing, gaining light each night. The tradition treats the waxing half as favourable to growth, expansion and outward undertakings, and most auspicious ceremonies are placed in it.
Purna — full
Purna means 'full' or 'complete'. These tithis favour the conclusion of things, ceremonies, journeys, and acts of charity and devotion. Their weekday is Thursday.
What it traditionally favours
Learning and the arts, medicine, serpent worship, sowing and planting, and acquiring wealth.
How this tithi is reckoned
