Vehicle purchase dates 2026

Buying a car or two-wheeler — the movable nakshatras suit it.

Buying a vehicle is one of the few muhurtas where the chara — movable — nakshatras are actively wanted rather than avoided. The logic is direct: the object's purpose is movement, so a nakshatra whose character is movement suits it. Punarvasu, Swati, Shravana and Dhanishta are the chara group, and Ashwini — whose symbol is a horse's head and whose temperament is speed — is the classical first choice of all.

Pushya is the other strong option, on the general principle that an act begun under Pushya needs no further muhurta. Hasta, Chitra and Revati are also commonly used, Revati in particular because its deity Pushan guards travellers on the road.

Unlike marriage and griha pravesh, this muhurta is not closed by Chaturmasya. What is avoided is the rikta tithis, amavasya, and — within the chosen day — rahu kalam for the moment of taking delivery.

Choosing within the day

Take delivery on one of the dates below, avoiding rahu kalam and yamagandam. Many dealers will hold a vehicle for a day or two for exactly this reason; it is worth asking.

The customary rite is short: a lamp, a coconut broken before the vehicle, a lime under each wheel, and a tilak on the bonnet or the handlebar. Many families drive first to a temple.

Common questions

Which nakshatra is best for buying a car?

Ashwini above all, then Pushya, and the chara group — Punarvasu, Swati, Shravana and Dhanishta. Revati is favoured for its association with safe journeys.

Does Chaturmasya block a vehicle purchase?

No. Chaturmasya closes weddings and housewarmings in most traditions but not ordinary purchases.

What matters more, the day or the hour?

For a vehicle, the hour. Most families pick a reasonable day and then take delivery outside rahu kalam, rather than searching hard for a perfect date.
