Marriage (Vivah) dates 2026

Wedding dates — the sthira nakshatras, outside Chaturmasya and the malamasa months.

Marriage is the muhurta the tradition takes most seriously, and the only one on this site for which we say plainly that a computed list is a starting point rather than an answer. A full vivah muhurta weighs both horoscopes — the guna milan, the position of Jupiter and Venus, the moon's placement for both parties, and the absence of doshas that no calendar can see. What the panchangam contributes is the outer filter: which days are structurally suitable at all.

That filter is still worth having, because it removes most of the year. Chaturmasya closes four months. The sun's passage through Dhanus and Meena closes two more in most traditions. The rikta tithis and amavasya go, as do the ugra and tikshna nakshatras. What remains is the shortlist a purohit works from.

The nakshatras favoured for marriage are the ones favoured for anything meant to last: the sthira group — Rohini, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada — together with the mridu group and a handful of others the classical texts name specifically.

The rule used

Nakshatras:
Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati
Tithis (day in paksha):
2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13
Weekdays:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Season:
Chaturmasya excluded (Ashadha shukla 11 to Kartika shukla 11)

Rikta tithis (4, 9, 14) and amavasya are excluded from every list. Dates are computed at sunrise in India (IST); the panchangam page for each date recomputes every timing for your selected city.

Choosing within the day

Start from the dates below, then take them to a purohit with both horoscopes. Ask specifically about Jupiter's position, about the moon for both parties, and about whether any dosha requires a remedy before the date is fixed.

Within the chosen day, the lagna matters more than for any other muhurta — the wedding is timed to a rising sign, not merely to an hour. That is a calculation the panchangam cannot do for you.

Common questions

Why are there no wedding dates for four months of the year?

Chaturmasya — the four months from Devshayani Ekadashi in Ashadha to Prabodhini Ekadashi in Kartika, during which Vishnu is said to rest. Weddings are traditionally not held in it across most of India.

Which nakshatras are best for a wedding?

The sthira (fixed) nakshatras above all — Rohini, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Uttara Bhadrapada — along with Mrigashira, Magha, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula and Revati.

Can I fix a wedding date from this list alone?

No. This is the structural filter — the days that are suitable in principle. The actual muhurta needs both horoscopes and a lagna calculation, which requires a purohit.
