About Shukla Trayodasi
The thirteenth tithi belongs to Kamadeva and carries desire, attraction and vigour. It is also Pradosham: the twilight hour of trayodashi, in both pakshas, is held to be the moment Shiva dances, and Pradosha worship at that time is one of the most widely kept monthly observances in the south.
The paksha
In shukla paksha the moon is waxing, gaining light each night. The tradition treats the waxing half as favourable to growth, expansion and outward undertakings, and most auspicious ceremonies are placed in it.
Jaya — victorious
Jaya means 'victory'. These tithis favour anything competitive or confrontational — litigation, examinations, negotiations, and acts requiring nerve. Their weekday is Tuesday.
What it traditionally favours
Pradosha worship of Shiva, matters of attraction and partnership, festivity, and competitive undertakings.
